영어 공부를 위한 공짜 앱

오늘은 간만에 공짜 영어 스쿨~
잡스님 덕분에 우린 영어 공부도 공짜로 하게 되었다.
아이폰이나 아이패드 용 어플 중 내가 좋아하는 영어 공부용 어플 하나 소개한다.

어려서 나는 리더스 다이제스트를 좋아했다. 다양한 읽을거리가 작은 책 한권에 들어있으니까. 그중 특히 좋아했던 것이 페이지 여분에 적혀있는 짤막한 우스개였다. 어느날 아이튠즈 스토어에 reader's digest를 쳤더니 유머만 모아놓은 어플이 떴다. 앗싸! 영어 독해 공부에 참 좋다. 독해가 제대로 되지 않으면 웃기지 않으니 이보다 더 좋은 독해 교재는 없다.

짧은 경구를 읽으며 영어 공부도 하고 삶의 지혜를 얻기를 원한다면, 아이튠즈 검색창에 quotes를 쳐보라. 연애편지에 인용할 수 있는 사랑의 밀어, 삶의 교훈, 영감을 주는 글귀 등이 많다. 우스개를 더 읽고 싶다면 jokes를 치면 다양한 유머 앱이 뜬다. 독해 공부하려고 학교 도서관에서 영자 신문 사설 복사했던게 엊그제같은데... 세상 참 좋아졌다. 이런데도 돈 없어 유학 못간다고 불평만 할쏘냐! 마음만 먹으면 공짜로 즐기는 세상이 눈 앞에 펼쳐져 있는데~

영어 공부, 어렵게 생각하지 마시라. 즐겁게 짬짬이 하면 된다. 어려운 학문 아니다. 마음만 먹으면 누구나 마스터할 수 있는게 외국어다. 머리 나빠서 영어 못하는 미국인은 없지 않은가.

After shopping at a busy store, another woman and I happened to leave at the same time, only to be faced with the daunting task of finding our cars in the crowded parking lot.
Just then my car horn beeped, and I was able to locate my vehicle easily.

"Wow," the woman said. "I sure could use a gadget like that to help me find my car."

"Actually," I replied, "that's my husband."

I overheard my nine-year-old son on the phone with a friend discussing a computer simulation game. The game involved creating a family, a house for them to live in, and so on.
My son, an old hand at the game, gave this warning:
"Whatever you do, don't get kids. They don't bring in any money, and all they do is eat."

At our supermarket, I noticed a woman with four boys and a baby.
Her patience was wearing thin as the boys called out,
"Mommy! Mommy!" while she tried to shop.

Finally, she blurted out,
"I don't want to hear the word mommy for at least ten minutes!"

The boys fell silent for a few seconds. Then one tugged on his mother's dress and said softly, "Excuse me, miss."
